Dental Veneers

Dental Veneers are basically sort of thin layered materials, which are designed and customized according to the needs of the patient to cover the teeth. These veneers are created in laboratory using special instruments. They are created by using the materials such as porcelain or resin composite.

These veneers are basically created to cover your teeth, if they are uneven or needs protection. Other than that, they can also change the shape of your original teeth, giving it a more of an even shape if they are irregular or broken, it also has the tendency to change the color of your teeth, giving it more of a nice bright white look and it also has the tendency to change the length of your teeth, for instance if you have small teeth you can reshape them using Veneers or if you have spaces between your teeth they could be covered with the help of Veneers.

Types of Veneers:

As mentioned earlier there are two types of Veneers which are as follows:

1)  Porcelain

Porcelain veneers are better than the resin ones since they have ability to resist stains better off than resin veneers. This kind of material lets the light reflects through them easily, which gives the teeth more of a natural look if you use them.

2) Resin veneers

Resin veneers on the other hand are thinner and they require less removal of the tooth surface before they’re placed, which could be advantage over the Porcelain, but the best choice of the Veneers for you needs to be decided by our dentist and the condition of your teeth.

Procedure :

There are basically three stages involved in the process of Veneers.

The first stage is the planning stage which involves the patient visiting the Dentist and you explain them what you basically want for your teeth and the dentist will likewise discuss what is best and most appropriate for you. Furthermore, in order to create best Veneers for you the doctor will take close pictures of your mouth and teeth from every angle so that he/she also may do an X-ray to have a complete visual display of your mouth.

The second step involves preparation of your veneer. This basically involves active involvement of both you and the dentist. Firstly, the dentist will remove enamel of your required tooth, (enamel is basically the surface of your tooth); the amount of enamel removed varies but it is mostly approximately half millimeter of your enamel depending upon the kind of Veneer you require. After that the dentist and you will decide how to numb of area of your mouth using local anesthesia. Later on, the dentist will design the model of your teeth, according to which the veneer will be constructed in the laboratory. This takes about 1 to 2 weeks but it could vary from lab to lab and doctor to doctor.

Once your Veneers are back from the Laboratory, there will be a trial. It is checked before the dentist permanently implants the veneers on your teeth. This may require further removal of your enamel. Your teeth will be cleaned and polished and etched too so that it roughens the area which would cause a better bonding of the tooth with the veneer.  After that a special kind of cement is applied to the veneer and the veneer is then placed on your required tooth. Once the veneer has been properly positioned onto the tooth, your dentist will apply a special kind of light beam onto the dental veneer, this basically is done to activate the chemicals in the cement, which causes the bonding to harden or cure very quickly.

Then during the last stage, final touches are done which involves removing of any excess cement from the tooth, and then the dentist evaluates if your bite is fine and inspects if they’re any final adjustments which needs to be done.

The process just doesn’t end here, you need to keep visiting your dentist so that they examine if veneers are working out fine and your gums are not having problem etc.
